"Here’s a copy of the insanely rare much talked about but never seen, music to BELINDA. A Swedish Flick with excellent psych music with lots of Fuzz guitar and cool breaks. A true lost Gemm underground of the early 70’s.
In 1975, Swedish songwriter and renaissance man Tom Zacharias recorded this concept album that has now become a major collector’s item and rightfully so, due to the weirdness of the contents added to the fact that this album was only sold in Sweden in sex shops and (i think) through mailorder of some dubious Swedish magazines of the 70’s. (All this in microcosmic quantities!) To own an original is almost impossible these days! Regarding the music, you can expect elastic rhythms, acid Fuzz Wah-Wah guitars, and catchy pop songs about kinky sex of the most extreme varieties.. The grizzled guitar filth is so very right, and the drums pop and reverberate with joy-- a joy the 80s might've destroyed forever. When Zacharias' band is at its funkiest, it makes the kind of sound The Beastie Boys longed so desperately to capture on their Check Your Head-era instrumentals. At the purely sonic level, Belinda is a major treat. The songs themselves, though, present a mixed bag.. bending between deep funk with a Blaxploitation feel towards a more progressive psych sound somewhere between The Freedom album (Nerosubianco) and CAN (in the track "Slavinnan" particularly, with a driving bass throb that the rubbery drummer clings to like a life preserver. All in all a great deal of weirdness and a very unique item n itself!!
