Description

Up for auction is a very rare and unique soul album produced by the BEDFORD-STUYVESANT YOUTH-IN-ACTION COMMUNITY CORPORATION (<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Brooklyn, New York) on a private label and not offered for sale to the public, from approximately 1968.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

It presents the top five amateur vocal groups competing in a talent contest in New York City in approximately 1968.   All of the tunes are from the period 1964-1968.  All of the groups are backed by a local band known as The THRILLERS BAND.

Title of this LP is “TALENT HUNT WINNERS.”

This copy was sent to a local television station, WNDT, in New York City.  The address sticker is still affixed to the front of the jacket.

I believe this album is very rare, as I have never seen a copy in 25 years of collecting.  Also, I cannot find any documentation of it in the popsike.com database, nor did I find any reference to it in price guides or on the internet.  Without a doubt, this would be an awesome addition to the serious soul LP collection!

From the liner notes:

“Bedford-Stuyvesant Youth In Action Community Corporation, largest poverty program in the nation, serving over 400,000 people in Bedford-Stuyvesant, with special accent on youth training.

Competing for prizes and possible projection to stardom was forty or more youngsters from Bedford-Stuyvesant area, and they did not disappoint their friends, and the highly enthusiastic audience.”

Guaranteed to be original and authentic.  I do not sell boots or modern reissues.

Jacket:  Jacket is in nice VG to VG+ condition.  The jacket is not laminated.  There is some surface wear in evidence, and also small splits at top left (one inch), top center (two inches), and top right (one inch).  The reverse has darkened with age, but has no writing or other problems.  As mentioned previously, there is a sticker on the front with a name and address of a local television station.

Vinyl:   Condition of vinyl is near mint with full brilliant gloss.  No sign of ever having been on a turntable.  It plays beautifully with superb fidelity.  I think the winning bidder will be quite pleased with the fantastic sound of this unique and rare piece of soul history.
