Rarely if EVER does a VJ 'TT' 498 DJ White Label Promo come up for sale, and when they do, they are usually $3K-$9K because they are super rare and highly sought after. Own this one at an extremely fair price !

Black thin print / Gray outer rim Vee Jay  "OVAL" logo. This PROMO had only 1 pressing and is without a doubt one of the RAREST BEATLES vinyls ever produced! It's estimated that far less than 1,000 were ever made available to U.S. Radio Stations in 1963 making this one of the rarest BEATLES  vinyls ever made. You have to wonder how many of these actually made it to the Radio Stations they were assigned to go to. And how many still exist in today's market after many were typically discarded or destroyed by DISC JOCKEYS who played them until the stock copy was released by VJ Records? If a significant number of these records were discarded or destroyed by the radio stations who had them, which was quite common back then, of the less then 1,000 originally made, how many actually found their way into today's collector's market? The answer is very few, if any !! Many of those that barely survived have been unfortunately found to be warped, hammered and unplayable.This one is in good playable condition. You can tell it made it to the DJ because it does show play, however fully intact with good labels. No warping.
This PROMO DISC JOCKEY ADVANCE COPY was released on 2-20-63. It features the Oval logo with "thin printing". The label states “Disc Jockey Advance Sample” and “NOT FOR SALE”, and misspells the group's name as “BEATTLES”. This was the very 1st record to be released in the USA, that bears the Beatles name (even though it is incorrectly spelled). This was made by ARP (American Record Pressing Co.) with the letters "ARP" appearing in the trail off area. Also, the "Audio Matrix" stamp appears there as well. (Matrix numbers: 63-2967 / 63-2968). Each song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios (London) on 11-26-62 with song writing credit to    'J. LENNON - P. McCARTNEY' while after this release, their first initial was dropped from the credits, which is the way it has been to this day !!

Released in February 1963, these Promotional singles are QUITE RARE. This Rare Promo VJ 45 has the word Beatles spelled as BEATTLES.

PROMOTIONAL RECORDS VEE JAY

These Promotional records were distributed free of charge so Vee-Jay could promote a recording that would soon be available to the public in the near future. Records marked "PROMO" were sent directly to broadcasters, music journalists and radio station disc jockeys in advance of the 'stock copy' in the hopes that major air play and reviews would stimulate the public's interest in the recording and sell tons of copies once released.

These super rare Vee Jay white label promotional records were produced in much smaller quantities then the releases that were sold to the general public, so these are considered near impossible to find, and extremely valuable since they were never sold or released to records stores !!












WHITE LABEL PROMO with a GRAY outer rim coloring. Label states DISC JOCKEY ADVANCE SAMPLE and NOT FOR SALE. Its trail off markings are identical to stock copies. The "ARP" logo indicates that it was made in Owasco, Michigan.  According to official Vee Jay stats, more than likely not all copies reached their assigned distributors. These PROMO in some cases, came with a stock Vee Jay Sleeve. EXTREMELY RARE and VERY COLLECTIBLE in ANY CONDITION!   

Please Please Me / Ask Me Why Vee-Jay VJ-498. The first record released in the United States to bear the Beatles name was VJ-498, which was released on or about February 20, 1963. The single contained the group’s second British 45 RPM single 'Please Please Me' backed with 'Ask Me Why' and was released in England on January 11, 1963, as Parlophone 45-R 4983. Both songs was recorded at November 26, 1962 on the Abbey Road Studio, London. Interestingly enough, Vee-Jay did not even know how to spell the group’s name. All initial issues of the record, as well as advertisements in the trade journals, added an extra “T” to the name. Thus, when VJ-498 was released in February of 1963, it was credited THE BEATTLES. The songwriters were listed as “J. Lennon-P. McCartney”, but after this historic 45 record, they were forever credited as just Lennon-McCartney.
