THE BEATLES —
Extremely rare promotional “Meet The Beatles”
mock cover produced by MTV Networks as a
special press release gift for the launch of the
VH1 Classic television network at the NATPE
Convention in New Orleans in April 2000.
To advertise the launch of this new music network devoted to classic rock and roll,
MTV Networks created this special
mockup of the “Meet The Beatles” album with
some of the information and graphics replaced with their own promotional material.
The cover is made from a flimsier cardboard than a regular LP cover, but has full graphics from the album on both sides … including some of the original text like the information under the group photo and the “Produced by George Martin” credit.
Inside the cover is a pull out cardboard promotional sheet inviting TV industry guests to “Naked Your Own VH1 Classic CD” by selecting songs from the list and having them made into their own free custom CD at the VH1 booth at the convention. There is also an attached “ticket” for Free Drinks by presenting the ticket at Tipitina’s Bar in New Orleans.
I acquired this as a television producer attending the NATPE Convention over 25 years ago …
They were a very small VIP swag gift …
I don’t imagine more than a handful have survived. A really quirky d unique Beatles related item that will probably be a must-own addition to some serious Beatles collector’s display!
