1970 UK RADIO LUXEMBOURG RECORDING STUDIOS ONE-SIDED 12" TRANSCRIPTION DISC

No matrix number in run-out grooves - '544AA' stamped on ungrooved B Side

This transcription disc is of a 20 minute Radio Luxembourg show, presumably broadcast in the UK in December 1970. It features edited studio versions and excerpts of seven Beatles songs, all interspersed by adverts for Benson & Hedges cigarettes, and finishes with a trailer by DJ Kenny Everett, in which he announces that as the band had split up all of their songs would be played by the station on New Year's Day 1971.

I purchased this record from a customer who worked as an engineer in Radio Luxembourg's Recording Studios during the late 1960s and early 70s. He told me that a colleague knocked this acetate out for him as a favour, and as far as he was aware there were no other copies made. I cannot verify this, and would be inclined to believe him were it in a plain brown sleeve - as it is, the laminated flipback sleeve makes me think that at least a handful of copies would have been produced to warrant the time and professionalism taken on the artwork. Either way, I have never seen a copy before, and can find no listings of it in the usual Beatles reference lists or websites.

CONDITION: ACETATE VERY GOOD- The one-sided disc is largely free of surface scratches, but has a smeared appearance which leads me to think that it may have been cleaned at some point with an acetate-unfriendly solution - there are very few pops or clicks but the sound quality has suffered with fairly heavy crackle throughout, but no skips or jumps. The record has been stored in a lightweight shaped polythene inner bag. 

LABEL EXCELLENT The printed recording studio paper label is clean and complete. The title and playing information have been typed, with a handwritten correction of the playing speed.

OUTER SLEEVE EXCELLENT+ The white flipback sleeve is in fabulous condition. It has a laminated black and white front cover that is uncreased and still an unmarked pristine white. The unlaminated white back cover has only discoloured slightly with a very minor tear along the opening edge. There is no rubbing to the edges, unprinted spine and corners, and no folds, creases, seam splits, stains or writing.

I am always happy to receive any wants-lists, but file them carefully on little bits of paper under slightly larger bits of paper that aren't always quite where they should be because the elves have clearly moving things around whilst I wasn't looking. I will guarantee to find what you want within minutes of you a) finding it elsewhere, b) deciding you can live without that Tibetan Skater Punk LP after all, or c) losing the will to live.

Despite that, all my vinyl is strictly graded using the Record Collector RRPG system, and all goods are properly protected and posted in strong, new Covers 33 packaging. Please recycle the packing cardboard if possible - it might just offset the damage done when the item was originally manufactured. Alternatively, throw it away and set fire to a couple of tyres.
