Description
A FABULOUS, ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME, OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE THIS ULTRA-RARE, IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND "Please Please Me" VARIANT, THAT WASN'T EVEN KNOWN TO EXIST UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO!! THE GENERAL BELIEF NOW BEING THAT LESS THAN 50 COPIES OF THIS L.P. WERE PRODUCED IN STEREO FORMAT BEFORE THE SMALL MISTAKE (An "extra" 33 1/3rd) PRINTED ON THE RECORD'S LABELS WAS RECTIFIED. IT WAS WIDELY BELIEVED THAT THIS RARE VARIANT FROM 1963, EXISTED ONLY IN MONO FORMAT.
The story behind this "mis-pressed" extra 33 1/3rd label is believed to be this:- The earliest pressings of this STEREO version of "Please Please Me", (The Beatles' first L.P. to be released in the U.K.) had the very earliest Black & Gold Parlophone label design. Very few of these were pressed in stereo. These alone are ultra-rare, and are avidly sought by serious Beatles' collectors world-wide. Parlophone later changed the record label to the Black & Yellow design (as illustrated in this listing), but initially failed to remove the small ("extra") 33 1/3rd. printed to the left hand side of the spindle hole. Once this minor error was noticed during the production run, this extra 33 1/3rd. was deleted from the record label, and is subsequently missing from later pressings-thus creating an ultra-rare variant. At first, it was first thought that all these mis-printed labels were MONO copies, but it has emerged that a miniscule number (thought to be less than 50 copies!!) were STEREO versions. This copy is one of the ULTRA-RARE STEREO versions !!

STEREO - "EXTRA 33 1/3rd" VARIANT
Record Label & Catalogue No:- PARLOPHONE PCS 3042
Matrix Nos. / Mothers & Stampers (VERY, VERY EARLY CODES):-
YEX 95-1 1G & YEX 94-1 1P
I WILL NOW DESCRIBE THIS ITEM AS ACCURATELY AS POSSIBLE
THE OUTER COVER:- The cover is the original E.J. Day production. There is very minor damage to each of the four corners. There is a small mark to the edge of the top right hand corner. The overall image and laminate covering is intact. There is some very minor creasing to the edges, noticeable only on close examination. The opening edges are clean and sharp with no "feathering" or tears.
THE SPINE:- Beautifully clean. Clear print. No scuffs. No splits.
THE BACK COVER:- Very clean and white. There is some minor damage in the bottom left hand corner, and a stain. There is a "scuff" to the printing of the listing for track 5 - Side2. There are no other rips or tears, and no writing anywhere on this sleeve. The fold-over flaps are reasonably clean, and intact. There are no other noticable marks.
THE CIRCULAR RECORD LABELS:- Both are in good clean condition with no marks, stickers, or labels. The area around the spindle hole is virtually un-marked. The "extra" 33 1/3rd can be seen to the left of the spindle hole. (Once this minor error was discovered, later pressings had revised and corrected labels).
THE 12" VINYL:- Both sides are black and shiny, but there are some "hairlines" and a noticeable scratch to side 1. Under careful scrutiny - there is nothing deep or serious. Both sides played well when tested, with the minimum of background noise and only the odd "click". These faults apart, this record has obviously only been played a few times, and has been carefully stored for most of it's life.
(Please examine and ENLARGE TO SUPER-SIZE the photos that accompany this listing. These will reveal the true condition of this L.P. and also provide full track listing details)
ALTHOUGH THIS ALBUM CANNOT BE DESCRIBED AS IN NEAR/MINT CONDITION, THE ALL - IMPORTANT CIRCULAR RECORD LABELS ARE WHAT REALLY MATTERS WITH THIS EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND BEATLES RARITY, AND THESE ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY PRISTINE AND THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY, VERY FEW COPIES OF THIS ULTRA-RARE "MIS-PRESS" VARIANT THAT ARE KNOWN TO EXIST IN STEREO FORMAT. AS YOU WILL SEE FROM THE PHOTOS IT IS ABSOLUTELY GENUINE.
