BEATLES RARE MONO “MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR”
“MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR” (MONO) MAL-2835 – You’re looking at a really nice copy of this historic 43 YEAR OLD GATEFOLD ALBUM. The NEAR MINT VALUE of this RARE MONO VERSION is $300.00!
*** DUE TO CAPITOL RECORDS' PHASING OUT OF MONO PRESSINGS IN 1967, MONO COPIES OF THIS ALBUM ARE FAR SCARCER THAN THE STEREO ISSUES! ***
ALBUM CONDITIONS
GATEFOLD COVER: (VG) – (All BMI credits with “No, you’re not!” in block letters.) The front gatefold cover has no noticeable ringwear on either side. The back gatefold cover shows a little bit of ringwear on the outside. All of the corners have been dinged, but not too badly. There are about a half dozen small sections on the seams that have been taped. This was done very carefully by me with acid-free tape that is hard to detect without putting the cover right under a strong lamp. Despite these shortcomings, this is still a very nice example of a 43 YEAR OLD GATEFOLD COVER that is often found in much worse shape.
SPINE: Unlike a lot of these old gatefold spines, this one is NICELY CENTERED & PRETTY FLAT. All text is present and clearly legible. (There’s even the last two letters of the word “STEREO” that was supposed to be cut off at the factory still showing at the very top.) The top and bottom corners, and a 2” section in the center have also gotten the acid-free tape treatment by yours truly. (The multiple taping done on this cover sounds a lot worse than it is. If you look at this cover without putting it under a strong light, you’d have a hard time seeing the tape.)
24 PAGE BOOKLET: The booklet is all there and in nice condition except for the fact that it has become completely detached from the inside cover. (Even the “outer pages” that were glued to the inside cover at the factory have come loose. I taped over the still sticky parts of the “outer pages” and the part of the cover they were glued to with acid free tape so they wouldn’t stick to anything.)
RECORD: (VG++) – Play tested. No skips. (Scranton pressing) The only thing keeping this record from being NEAR MINT is some surface rubs and a few very light scratches that cannot be felt. I just finished playing this album, and even on my cheap record player, it still sounds amazing. Both sides still retain a good bit of their original luster.
Labels: Both labels look great with only a few very light spindle marks.
Sleeve: Comes with the CUSTOM RED & WHITE SLEEVE (BPE 12-1) in very good condition. It does have a 3” split at the bottom center. (The record will be shipped inside a new generic sleeve in order to protect the original sleeve.)
