THE HISTORY: IN 1970 I WAS WORKING AS A BARMAN IN THE BARON’S COURT PUB IN COMERAGH ROAD, WEST KENSINGTON, LONDON IN BETWEEN BUSKING ON THE UNDERGROUND. A REGULAR AT THE PUB WAS THE RADIO DJ TONY WINDSOR, I WAS TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE SINGER/SONGWRITER SCENE AT THE TIME  AND GOT CHATTING WITH TONY, HE WAS INTRESTED IN SOME OF THE STUFF I HAD WRITTEN AND WE BECAME FRIENDLY, AND AS I WAS ALWAYS SHORT OF MONEY FOR NEW RECORDS, I ASKED HIM COULD HE GET ME SOME OF THE RECORDS HE REVIEWED AND HE USED TO BRING ME CARRIER BAGS FULL OF THEM, ONE OF THEM WAS THIS PARTICULAR BEATLES BOX SET WHICH I AM NOW SELLING. WHAT YOU ARE GETTING HERE IS THE GENUINE ARTICLE IN THE SAME OWNERSHIP FOR 34 YEARS AND THE HISTORY BEHIND IT.

HAVING THE “FACTORY SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE STICKER” ALSO MAKES IT THAT LITTLE BIT MORE SPECIAL, AS I HAVE NEVER BEFORE SEEN THIS ON ANY OF THESE BOX SETS.

RARE 1st ISSUE, FULLY LAMINATED COVER WITH A RED APPLE LOGO.
THE COVER IS GRADED EXCELLENT PLUS TO NEAR MINT CONDITION.

THE RECORD IS IN MINT CONDITION. GLEAMING AS THE DAY IT WAS PRESSED, I PLAYED IT ONCE WHEN I GOT IT, AND AGAIN FOR THIS AUCTION.

The Box's Details:

OUTER FULLY LAMINATED, SLIP OFF COVER IN AT LEAST EXCELLENT PLUS CONDITION.

1st TRAY IN AT LEAST NEAR MINT CONDITION.

2nd TRAY FOR THE BOOK, THERE ARE 2 SMALL CREASES TO ONE SIDE ADJOINING THE BOOK, OTHER THAN THAT, IT’S NEAR MINT.

THE BOOK HAS NO LOOSE PAGES, THE INSIDE IS IN MINT CONDITION.

THE BOOK'S LAMINATED COVER IS IN MINT CONDITION.

The end maitrix numbers on the LP in the Box Set are ' - 3U / - 3U ' , 'The Beatles UK 60's LP's were always issued in top quality laminated covers, "Let It Be" wasn't an exception, with both the front and back cover given a deluxe laminated finish.

MORE DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

The outer cover is still square shaped and in no way squashed out of shape, as the book and the cover were not left outside. The colours of the four Beatles pictures are the deep tones of 1970, unfaded and richly coloured. The laminate is ultra glossy so the main black colour of the front's background and the back, looks superb. There's some light wear I'll describe as accurately as possible. The overlapped stuck down edges are very securely glued, without any lifting. The front is in outstanding condition with only light handling signs I'll detail.

At the very top of the box centre is a single section which had lifted when I got it,  I  glued it back year ago. Its 1 inch long and only shows as 2 slight lines. On the left side of the box there is a 2” crease, this is where I held to remove the inner package, these boxes were very tight and on most of them it was a struggle to get the inner part out to get to the record and sleeve. There are no other laminate crinkles.

Other than that, the opening sides have little or no wear, there is no peeling laminate, the edges are crisp and straight.

The corners are remarkable, not even a few tiny creases. There's only the very slightest laminate wear on the other edges, but there's no white paper showing on the whole of the outer cover. The back has "Designed by John Cosh. Photographs by Ethan A Russell - - Printed & made in Great Britain by Garrod & Lofthouse Limited. Patents Pending" is on the bottom edge in white print. There wasn't a catalogue number on the outside or on the inside of the box. The back is in a similar condition to the front, except one very light crinkle on the opening edge, no crinkles, all 4 corners are in near perfect condition. The edges and everything else are as described for the front.

Moving inside, the main tray is in exceptionally strong condition and I would say it’s near mint if not better. The shape is still a perfect square, essential to hold and keep the book's tray in position. The base is the main area , the outside is still the original black colour, it's completely unscuffed or worn, as is the plain cardboard on the inside section.

The top's flaps are perfectly strong, one of the flap side's a very slight crease. There is NO edge wear.

 The 2nd tray for the book is the toughest part of the whole package, and here this is one of the finest I've seen for years except for the internal corners of the on the right hand side of the book compartment, these is a half inch crease on each one, but  are not split or torn and very close to being near perfect for such a frail design.

The joints are in superb condition, the edges are very sturdy as well, and again in
exceptional condition, and again, no wear to the outside corners.

The perforted main folds are for once unsplit round the entire parimeters.

 I've graded every individual item as a seperate entity, this inner tray is amazing to be so strong and self supporting. The book is still a perfectly tight fit, so the greatest care is needed removing it.

The book is renowned for the pages falling out, but not this one. All the pages are securely stuck in place, with the whole inside in mint condition. I've taken a picture of two pages, and this is the first time it has ever been opened.

The outside has a mega glossy laminated coating,  I must emphasise every single page is in pristine, uncreased mint condition.

The labels are in pristine condition, Side1 is the 1970 very dark geen Apple colour found in this box set. The spindle areas have the faintest traces of being played approximately only 2 / 3 times.

The record still has a deep glossy sheen, only a few light paper scuffs, the type from taking in and out of the sleeve which were never suitable for vinyl in any event.

There are no marks or scratches to effect play. This 33 years old record is in great condition, MINT, A really beautiful looking record, that also plays with incredible audio, pressed to Apple's / EMI's impeccable vinyl mastering standards. There's no surface sound on the whole album, with even Side1's acoustic "Maggie Mae" in crystal clear audio. The stereo sound is superb.

The cover is in superb condition. To explain why this is unique to only the1st issues of the box set and the first standard issue "green Apple cover" is easily done. The shape is very distintive, with a sloping shape from the centre outwards, dipping into the 4 corners.

The most unique feature of all is the red Apple logo on the back cover, and the fact this pressing and cover were never sold in shops without being a part of the box set. The sheer quality of the thick glossy laminate and the deeply toned, life like colours on the 4 Beatles pictures do make it the ultimate cover. The extra thick laminate on the back and front is in ultra glossy, undulled condition. The colours on the individual Beatles pictures are still the same deep tones as printed in 1970. There is very slight ring impression and hardly any laminate wrinkles. Nothing to spoil a truly beautiful looking front and back cover. The opening edge is still razor sparp and all four corners are still perfect, with no blemishes, all four corners, all of the edges and the spine are in stunning, perfect condition.

The inner sleeve is the original 1970 EMI type, plain white with the bottom of one side printed with, "Made in Great Britain" and "Patent Applied For".
This is in MINT condition.

I've shown as much as possible in the pictures, sacrificing label pictures save for the one with the “Factory Sample – Not For Sale” to show the box's details, but as I
wrote above,both of the labels are in pristine condition.
