The Beatles - Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You. 45-R 4949
The Beatles 1962 UK 1st FACTORY SAMPLE DEMO pressing of 'Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You' 7" single. Released on the 5th October 1962, this also comes complete with the very rare original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve in wonderful EXCELLENT+ condition. The vinyl is offered here in solid VERY GOOD+ condition.
These initial early factory sample pressings would have usually been given out to reviewers, radio stations or used as quality control within the pressing plant.
Released on the red Parlophone label both sides feature the 'Recording First Published 1962' text and have the 'KT' tax stamp to the a-side label. The catalogue number of this single is '45-R 4949' with the '45' part of the prefix was there to distinguish it from the '78' versions of vinyl produced. Once EMI dropped 78's in March 1963, singles after this date did not require the '45' prefix. 'FACTORY SAMPLE NOT FOR SALE' and 'A' stickers on the 'Love Me Do' side. The single has some very early matrix numbers but also some of the strangest with multiple tax codes printed within the run out area KMPZT and KPZT. A solid example of this early Beatles single.
The Matrix numbers are:
Side 1. 7XCE 17144-1N 1 RD KMPZT (indicating Ringo on drums and no tambourine version).
Side 2. 7XCE-17145-1N 1 GP W KPZT
The vinyl is in VERY GOOD+ condition.
Both labels are in VERY GOOD+ condition. Name written neatly on b-side.
The original 'URGENT SPECIAL RUSH COPY TOP POP!' demo sleeve is in EXCELLENT+ condition. SUPERB
