Description

Up for auction is a Bandai 8 ban “triple inchophone” record player. I guess if you’ve found this listing, you already know the story with these, ie they’re the most utterly desirable music playing equipment ever. This is the limited run HMV edition. I’ll include a 3-inch single too.

Condition: basically mint; it's still in its box & includes slip mat, "45rpm adaptor", instructions & all packing materials. There is a small surface tear on the outside of the box but otherwise everything is as good as new.

The Triple Inchophone is a small record player that can only play 3-inch vinyl White Stripes records.

History

During the 2005/2006 tour, The White Stripes sold this small record player at their merchandise stand. They did not sell well at first, until Jack explained on the official White Stripes website what they actually were.

These special record players were made by a Japanese company called Bandai (not "8-Ball Bandai", or any other variation). When Jack and Meg invested in buying the players from the company, they believed there were many units ready for distribution. The band later found out that the company had destroyed all but 400 of their units.

The Stripes bought the remaining 400 units and sold them on tour along with a set of 3-inch White Stripes singles. The cost price of a unit at the shows was between $150 US and £100 GB. The Triple Inchophone is now a rare White Stripes collectable, and the machine can reach up to almost £350 among collectors.

3-Inch Singles

Jack re-mastered and re-mixed six of the White Stripes' single releases into a 3 inch format for release with the Triple Inchophone.

These six 3-inch singles included :

"Hotel Yorba"
"Seven Nation Army"
"The Hardest Button to Button"
"Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground"
"Blue Orchid"
"Fell In Love With a Girl"

Also released was a never before heard track called "Top Special", only to be released in the 3 inch format. The "Top Special" single was rumored to be limited to 150 copies, which meant not even everyone who bought the Triple Inchophone recieved the "Top Special" single.

"Top Special" is Japanese slang for "best friend".

Please note this is the HMV version but will still play The White Stripes records, a less costly way to enjoy the Triple Inchophone!
