Description

Günther Ramin conducts the Thomaner Chor and Gewandhausorchester Leipzig in Bach St Matthew Passion with soloists, Karl Erb, Gerhard Hüsch, Tiana Lemnitz, Friedel Beck and Siegfried Schultze. Electrola first edition LP although original recorded 1941 for 78rpm. Box, booklet and records in very good condition. A+++++

Historical note: Carl Lindstrom, the founder of Parlophone records - Eddy Brown in Mendelssohn in 1922! - , made this recording in Leipzig in 1941. Schultze sang his role wearing his Luftwaffe uniform on what must have been special leave. Hitler would not allow the release of the recording; I do not know why? Maybe someone can tell me.
