Description

For sale is the 1956 4-LP Promotional Box-Set, Columbia Records "At Newport" Jazz Festival. The set includes 4 LP's:

1) CL 931, "Louis Armstrong and Eddie Condon at Newport"

2) CL 932, "Dave Brubeck and Jay & Kai at Newport"

3) CL 933, "Duke Ellington and the Buck Clayton All-Stars at Newport"

4) CL 934 "Duke Ellington at Newport"

Each of these records was released separately under the same catalogue numbers. I was unable to find another example of a box-set. It could have been strictly a promotional release, as all 4 records have deep-grooved, white/red "6-eye" Columbia "Promotional" labels.

SOUND: NM/MINT

All 4 records were machine-cleaned and play-tested completely:

CL 931, (Armstrong/Condon): A few small tics on side A. Otherwise, very clean, lovely sound throughout.

CL 932, (Brubeck/Jay & Kai): Clean, clear, solid playback. One small tic on side B, otherwise near-perfect playback!

CL 933, (Ellington/Clayton): Brilliant, near-perfect playback!

CL 934, (Ellington): Brilliant, near-perfect playback!

VINYL: NM

CL 931, (Armstrong/Condon): Near-perfect! A couple of the faintest inner-sleeve smudges.

CL 932, (Brubeck/Jay & Kai): Overall beautiful, clean vinyl, with a few very faint inner-sleeve-scuffs, very minimal, entirely cosmetic.

CL 933, (Ellington/Clayton): Near-perfect! A couple of the faintest inner-sleeve smudges.

CL 934, (Ellington): overall beautiful, clean vinyl, with a few very faint inner-sleeve-scuffs, very minimal, entirely cosmetic.

All the records have white/red "SIX-EYE" Columbia PROMO labels, with deep-grooves. All the labels are clean and very nice condition.

JACKET: NM

The jackets are absolutely stunning! The 4 records were protected by the box-sleeve all these years, and as a result, these are quite simply, some of the brightest, cleanest, newest-looking sleeves you'll see! All the sleeves display straight, solid edges and spine, with sharp, clean corners. Fronts and backs are remarkably bright, with little-to-no signs of wear. Cardboard is heavy with no bends or flaws. The only cosmetic flaws are a few faint touches of yellowing on the backs, and along the front right edge of CL 933. Very minimal.

The photos are of the exact record up for bids. Look before you bid, ask if you want any additional info or pics.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.

If you're into this stuff, you might want to save me to your seller's list and check back periodically. I'll be putting a lot of vintage jazz records up for auction. I'm not a collector, nor an audiophile, but I think they are desirable if you're into this kind of material.  Click "see other items" and thanks for looking!
