Description
A chance to buy a lovely clean copy of a first pressing (A1/B2 matrix) of Van Morrison's Astral Weeks - Warner Bros orange label (WS 1768, released 1968). These copies are becoming increasingly rare - there were no other 'orange labels' on eBay at the time of listing.
It has the following matrix numbers:
Side 1: WS 1768 A-1 *T STEREO
Side 2: WS 1768 B-2 *T STEREO
VINYL: The vinyl looks great and has retained its original high sheen. Visual inspection under bright light shows minimal hairline marks. It has obviously been well cared for and is still in its original polythene-lined inner sleeve. There is minimal background noise - even the quietest tracks are pure. There isn't even crackle between tracks. HOWEVER, there are two very brief skips - one a couple of seconds, the other shorter - during Astral Weeks itself. There is no visual indication of why these happen - maybe an original mis-pressing. While these are obviously briefly distracting during that song, the overall quality of the sound reproduction over the rest of the album needs to be heard. Other than those I would have had no hesitation in grading the vinyl as Excellent (Ex).
LABELS: The labels are near perfect with no damage, writing or stickers.
SLEEVE: The sleeve is an original laminated front cover with flipbacks. It is in Excellent condition with two oxbow creases in the laminate (see picture), some slight ringwear and minor wear around the opening. The spine is strong and square and there is minimal discolouration to the unlaminated back cover.
INNER SLEEVE: The record comes in the original polythene lined inner which has the various warning and instruction text. In those days we needed to be told about "stereophonic" records and that we had to use a "sapphire or diamond stylus with a tip radius of between .0005 and .0007 inch".
Happy to answer any questions - or to provide further details on the skips.
(Gradings have been based on Record Collector/Rare Record Guide definitions.)
POSTAGE & PACKING
The record will be carefully packaged to ensure that it survives the journey. In this case the vinyl will be packaged separate to the sleeve. Everything will be sealed in an inner plastic cover and protected with rigid cardboard stiffeners. It will be posted requiring signature on delivery. Insurance can be arranged on request.
Postage to Europe will cost £9.95. Elsewhere in the world will cost £13.45.
RETURNS
I have tried to describe the condition of record and sleeve as accurately as possible. I would be happy to provide a full refund if you do not agree with my assessment.
