Description
From Leonard Feather's personal collection comes this mono test pressing for Art Blakey's Mosaic on Blue Note BLP 4090. The playing surface is bright and clean and plays as new: "RVG" and "P" in the dead wax (note that "ear" is a misnomer: it is actually a "P" for Plastylite , the company that pressed Blue Note's records). The test pressing was sent to Feather in a paper sleeve on which he wrote his listening comments in preparation for the album's liner notes. The recording session took place on October 2, 1961. The test pressing, dated 11-3-61, shows how quickly Blue Note wanted the record in production since Blakey, at this time, was a money machine for the label.
Personnel includes Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller, and Wayne Shorter.
