From Blue Note Records (BLP 4160) this is SMOKESTACK by ANDREW HILL, an original mono pressing recorded December 13, 1963, at the Ruby Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs; released in 1966. The jacket shows some modest shelf wear but is sturdy and very attractive. Labels show numerous and deep spindle marks yet the rounded-edge wax is scratch free. Plays like a dream. An incredible showcase for Hill's keyboard skills starting as a solid hard bop masterpiece then taking off into free jazz realms then coming back to bebop. The two bass players are working simultaneously. This is an album you'll play over and over discovering something new with each listening. Highest recommendation!
Low opening bid with no reserve. Good luck bidders!
