"In Session, recorded in 1983, is the only known recording of Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan performing together. Its long-overdue commercial release (the album didn't come out until 1999) stands as a fitting tribute to the genius of two of the greatest musicians ever to have played the blues on electric guitar. Now, it's available on vinyl for the first time.
Anyone who's witnessed a much-anticipated jam session only to be disappointed - with each participant deferring to the other, the end result being that neither ever got out of first gear — will welcome this pairing of two giants of blues guitar. Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan obviously shared a mutual admiration, but it simply wasn't in either one's makeup to a) be intimidated or b) take a backseat to anyone. Not without kicking up a little dust.
This is such a precious set to any fan of either of these blues giants. In addition to the free-spirited jams, there are priceless episodes of conversation between each song, both men exchanging accolades and King giving the much younger Vaughan (though tragically it was Vaughan who died first) some sage advice. This simply is a must-have.
Analogue Productions introduced test pressings from their Stax Records reissue at the June 2003 Home Entertainment Expo in San Francisco. Among the exhibitors to show off their wares using these yet-to-be-released 45s was Richard Vandersteen of Vandersteen Audio.

Reviewer: benjah They will be in the room with you! Popped this on with my new tube amp monoblocks and just about fell out of my chair. Right up with, or maybe even surpasses, my Art Pepper 45s for presence and subtle nuance that puts you in the studio. Fantastic chatting between King and SRV between tracks. And the music jams to boot! A must add to any audiophile's vinyl collection. Albert and Stevie exceed expectation posted on 01/11/2008

Reviewer: John P. The headline says it all. Both guitars sound fantastic, in the room stuff and the back-up rhythm section deserves a better word than back-up. The music has feeling and drive. Anybody who is a blues fanatic and does not have this disc in some form (although I can't imagine being without the 45 RPM) has a hole in their collection. Absolutely Necessary posted on 04/09/2009

Electric guitar blues fans or any blues fans familiar with Albert King or Stevie Ray Vaughan should not pass this up. Excellent guitar work where Albert and Stevie play off each other's work beautifully. The 45 RPM mastering is just the icing on the cake. Performance A, Sound A...what are you waiting for?
