Description

This is a very important album documenting a new stream of  jazz in a time when the jazz scene was rich and fruitful.  Ornette Coleman showed the way by creating music where the improvisation was only loosely bound to the structure of the melody.  Albert Ayler and his compatriots Gary Peacock and Sunny Murray extended the freedom so that a composed melody might be a part of the song, but it was just as likely that the music would be spontaneously composed right on the spot.  This is the first ESP disk of music (ESP-1001 was spoken word in Esperanto).

This album is part of Bert Wilson's personal collection, and his wheelchair tracks are on the inner sleeve (if that matters to you). Bert bought this album new in 1965, when another musician told him he sounded like Ayler.  Bert listened to this album quite a bit, and not always with the best of needles on his turntables, so there is continuous surface noise, but it's low-level--even during bass solos, the music is always louder than the surface noise.  He took pretty good care of the album--there are no large, offensive scratches that interrupt the music.

The inner sleeve is dirty and wrinkled, and you will probably want to get a better inner sleeve,  I'm just including it because it has the discography (Forthcoming releases: ESP 1015 thru 1018) and is part of the complete package.  The cover is flat white, not covered with shiny stock like most mid-1960s albums, so it is pretty dirty.  One of the bottom corners was bent back at one time, and there is a 1" edge split in the top.  Bert Wilson did not write his name on it (but if you want him to, he will).

Please view my other listings--I have other jazz LPs up for sale, and will be adding more--and save on shipping.  Shipping for the first LP is $3, each additional LP in the same package will only cost .25.  If you win an LP, let me know if you intend to bid on other media mail items and I will wait until the other auctions end before mailing.  International buyers: if you win more than one LP, I will package and weigh your order before sending the invoice with your shipping charges.
