Description

ASDJ 251 SCHEHERAZADE Beecham SOUTH AFRICA WHITE GOLD FIRST EMI ASD

Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade.

Sir Thomas Beecham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Solo Violin, Steven Staryk).

Scarce original South Africa pressed EMI HMV stereo LP, ASDJ 251.

Earliest white and gold label which is very similar to the UK ASD issues of the same period. The vinyl is a similar heavy duty issue. The sleeve has a virtually identical text/layout to the UK issue, but with some additional/changed text denoting a South African pressing. Visible rear backflaps. The sleeve is not laminated, but is constructed of a glossed paper/card stock to both front and rear.

Features a gold and red stereophonic sticker to bottom right of front panel.

Vinyl near mint. Hard to detect any spider trail marks around the spindle areas and the labels are bright and undefaced. The LP appears very carefully handled and still has a very high sheen. Even with the aid of a magnifying glass I cannot detect any blemishes to the surfaces.

Playback is bright and clean and free of distortion or groove wear. No background crackle or ticks.

Original poly-lined inner sleeve with unique South African text in as close to near mint condition as can be expected. No marks or splits and barely a crease.

External sleeve top end VG plus. On the whole structurally in good order, especially as fairly lightweight in texture. The main panels are bright white and clean still and ringwear/storage rubbing is absolutely marginal. The sleeve still has a very bright gloss, and there is no seam splitting. Rear backflaps are intact and undamaged. No inscriptions or stickers/sticker residue. There are three or four small closed tears to both front and rear entry side. None of these is more than half an inch in length, and although there is a little creasing in these areas, the damage is by and large neat and tidy. It is just these which prevent a higher jacket grading.
