ART BLAKEY "The African Beat" RVG, P, LAM, Blue Note 4097 Mono Vinyl

This is the first edition, 1962, 210 gram, "VAN GELDER" stamped, Laminated Cover, P-pressing of Art Blakey and The Afro-Drum Ensemble's The African Beat SONNY ROLLINS' "Sonny Rollins" on the "New York" labels of Blue Note BLP 4097. Musicians include Art Blakey, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, Yusef Lateef, Curtis Fuller, Chief Bey, Robert Crowder, James Ola. Folami, Solomon G. Ilori, Montego Joe, Garvin Masseaux.

VINYL plays with low-level to very low-level surface noise (i.e, static, crackle, ??,????,relative to the volume of the music/instruments) with occasional pops or ticks. Many spots dead quiet. Most surface noise subsumed by the music. Ensemble sections are very dynamic  and clear. No Skips. No locked grooves. No distortion. Good gloss. Many hairline marks, couple feelable. (If you can't feel it you won't hear it).  The "New York" labels are generally clean with spindle marks. See photos.

LAMINATED COVER is in EXCELLENT shape, corners worn. Seams and spine nearly mint. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23" back jacket clean, "RF88" cursive writing top right corner.  Please see photos.

This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON ULTRASONIC AUDIO DESK SYSTEME VINYL PRO CLEANER.
