EVA NORDWALL - CONTEMPORARY SCADINAVIAN MUSIC FOR THE HARPSICHORD LP

Bis

Gatefold cover

Very rare original album featuring Eva Nordwall (harpsichord) performing works of contemporary scadinavian composers like Arne Mellnas, Norgard, Morthenson and others. Accompanied on occasion by live electronics (Knut Sonstevold) or flute (Gunilla Von Bahr).

Some info on the release:  Very rare original issue, released in Germany sometime in the 80's on the BIS label. Features contemporary works for the harpsichord performed by Eva Nordwall, accompanied on occasion by live electronics (Knut Sonstevold= Live, Echo, Phase-shifter, Octave-divider, Signal Distributor, Transducers), plus Gunilla Von Bahr & Camilla Soderberg on flute. They perform works from Arne Mellnas, Per Norgard, the finnish Erik Bergman, Jan W.Morthenson, Hans Holewa & Egil Hovland. Some very powerful material lies in this record!! A must to discover!!

Arne Mellnas:  Studies at the State College of Music, Stockholm (musical theory, piano, violin, conducting) 1953-59, 1962-63. Composition studies first privately with Erland von Koch (1954-55), then with Lars-Erik Larsson and Karl-Birger Blomdahl at the State College of Music. Further studies at the Hochschule f?r Musik Berlin with Boris Blacher, composition, and Josef Rufer, Schfnberg analysis in 1959-60; privately with Max Deutsch in Paris and Gyfrgy Ligeti in Vienna in 1961-62; electronic music with Gottfried Michael Koenig in Bilthoven, Holland in 1962-63. Attended the International summer courses in Darmstadt, Germany in 1959, 1960 and 1962. Returned to the State College of Music in Stockholm to teach theory (1963-72), then orchestration and composition (1972-86).

Per Nørgård studied with Vagn Holmboe at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and subsequently with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. To begin with, he was strongly influenced by the Nordic styles of Jean Sibelius, Carl Nielsen and Vagn Holmboe. In the 1960s, Nørgård began exploring the modernist techniques of central Europe, eventually developing a serial compositional system based on the "infinity series" (Nørgård 1975), which he used in his Voyage into the Golden Screen, the Second and Third Symphonies, I Ching, and other works of the late 1960s and 70s (Mortensen [n.d.]). Later he became interested in the Swiss artist Adolf Wölfli, who inspired many of Nørgård's works, including the 4th symphony, the opera Det Guddommelige Tivoli and Papalagi for solo guitar.

Condition: Vinyl lies in mint- condition, looks super clean and plays perfectly, while cover lies in very good+ condition, looks perfect except from being worn and slightly split at the top right corner of the back side of the gatefold.
