Description
On offer is a fine first pressing UK stereo copy of the achingly beautiful double album, Yeti, by Amon Duul on the original black Liberty label from 1970 (LSP 101). It comes in its original textured sleeve and carries its original period £.s.d./decimal price sticker. Just to further demonstrate it was one of the first pressings off the plate, this set bears a batch of mother stampers that reads 1-G, 1-G, 1-G, 1-A. How early is that.
Yeti is one of the finest albums of all time. The vast soundscape of this double whammy is truly jaw-dropping - even 39 years on. Consequently original copies such as this are much sought after, particularly when they are in as fine condition as this. Many a copy would have been harshly treated over the years, on account of the lifestyle of its 'users', and whilst this copy may not be perfect, it is most certainly a very presentable copy in nice original untouched condition.
Here is a rare surviving example of a vulnerable unlaminated textured double gatefold sleeve. It is strong, not dog-eared like most, and can easily stand up for itself, as you can see in my photos. The front of the gatefold, however, suffers from ringwear, most noticeably at the top. There is also slight evidence of where a sticker once rested, top right. But there is a lovely strong depth of colour to this front panel. The rear of the sleeve exhibits only minor ringwear, hardly even noticeable, and the inside is excellent. There is also a certain amount of edgewear and corner rubbing but there are no rips, tears, unwanted scrawl or any other signs of abuse. Critically assessed, this textured gatefold merits a grade of VG-, though it is nevertheless perfectly presentable.
The original two slabs of heavyweight first pressing vinyl (all four matrices end with 1-G) have been well cared for, with light marks (but no scratches) showing only when examined closely under harsh halogen lighting. The original black Liberty labels show signs of moderate spindle activity while all four sides perform beautifully. This perfectly matched set of first pressing records comfortably merits a grade of VG-.
