AMERICAN TOP 40 Year End Countdown 1971 3LPs

ITEM:  American Top 40 "Top Hits of 1971" 3 LP set.  (ABC Watermark PROMO only 1971).  Countdown aired at the very end of 1971, very beginning of 1972.).   Cover and label stamp marks chart date as 1/1/72.   This is program 721-1.

Cover is VERY GOOD.   There is writing on the front (see photo) and a 2"-ish split on the inside seam of the box.

Albums are VERY GOOD to VERY GOOD PLUS.   There are some ticks and pops but they usually go away rather quickly and the final side has a slight warp that does not impact play.   I don't believe these countdowns were pressed on the best vinyl, since they were rushed each week.   There are scuffs that to me appear that they came from the original pressing.   The sound itself is quite good.  These records were probably played a few times on air and then only a couple of times afterward. 

While some of the year end countdowns were 80 or 100 songs, 1971 was wrapped up in a three hour program.  40 songs.  No commercials on the LP, but test tones and lots of AT40 jingles and full outro themes. 

This is a terrific collectible for anyone who loved the hits of 1971, was born that year, graduated, got married, loves pop music, Casey, etc.   No reserve!   Good luck!

Records are graded conservatively.   I also listen in several spots to report play condition.      

Record Grading:

MINT ---- Perfect.  No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains, labels or writing, tears or splits.  Still sealed albums are presumed MINT, but covers may not be.  See item for description.   I will not grade any opened album as "mint", since there's obviously been some handling.

NEAR MINT ---- Close, but one or two tiny flaws that do not affect play.   Vinyl may have a barely visible scuff mark, but no scratches.   Label is bright, clean and unmarked.   Covers should be close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident: very minor ring-wear, minor denting to a corner, or writing on the cover---all being noted properly.    This is the best grade I give an unsealed vinyl record. 

EXCELLENT (or VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS)----  Disc plays near perfectly.  There could be scuffs or a hairline scratch that does not impact play.  Vinyl is bright and shiny.   Cover may have some slight corner creases or minor ringwear.

VERY GOOD PLUS ---- The record has been handled and played occasionally but very carefully. On a disc, there may be light paper scuffs from sliding in and out of a sleeve or the vinyl or some of the original luster may be lost, but the record remains "shiny".   Some minor scratches that do not affect play would be acceptably VG+ for most collectors.   VG PLUS records should only have minor surface noise during quiet passages or between tracks.  (Sometimes at this level, records "look" and "play" a little differently.  I do listen to at least some of the record to give you an honest assessment).    Covers are clean, but could have some writing marks (properly noted).   There may be some slight discoloration or staining, minor seam wear with creases or fraying in the corners.  (Again, all defects duly noted).

VERY GOOD ---- Record displays visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl luster, light surface scratches, groove wear and spindle trails. Some audible surface noise, perhaps in quite passages, but it should not overwhelm the musical experience. Usually a cover is VG when one or two of these problems are evident: ring wear, seam splits, bent corners, loss of gloss, stains, etc.

GOOD ---- Well played with little luster and significant surface noise. Despite defects, record appears that it will play all the way through without skipping---though it's possible it could.  Several cover flaws will be apparent, but should not obliterate the artwork---major seam splits, significant ring wear, tears, cuts, taping (all noted).  I will only sell VERY RARE "GOOD" records.   You could call them, "Collection Filler Only".

FAIR ---- Unless we're talking an Elvis "Sun" or the alternate "Freewheelin' Bob Dylan", you probably want to pass on these.  I won't sell them unless I find the Holy Grail.   FAIR records appear and sound like they've barely made it.  Covers may be defaced, seamless, stained beyond belief.
