Description

****Welcome to our ebay auction, thanks very much for looking and good luck with your bids!

Offered at auction is a true LP rarity - hotly pursued by both audiophiles and music collectors alike (when these types of records can be found)! A wonderful LP in near mint condition! Don't miss out on this magnificent piece of recorded music history!!

Pierre Froidebise (1914-1962) - may be considered for the same reason as his elder, Andre Souris, as a mastermind of the young Belgian School. Mutatis mutandis he played the same role in Liege as Messiaen in Paris. His death (at 48) deprived Belgium of one of the most competent organists of the present time, of an artist gifted with matchless delicacy and of a marvellous musician. The two recorded works belong to his most significant achievements and may be considered milestones on the way to supreme refinement and an art which is aimed at musical purity at its highest.

Jean Absil (1893) - In his excellent work "La Musique Belge Contemporaine", Robert Wangermee very soundly defined the attitude of Jean Absil, the great national mentor and successor of Paul Gilson as follows: "By nature little inclined to show provocative attitude and to take up a conspicuous position, he withdraws into the realm of his work in order to face before his own artistic conscience the various solutions which contemporary music proposes. Whatever developement may be revealed in Absil's work, its principal quality and infallible value remain his loyalty to a uniformity of expression which the composer adopted."

Long out of print and now supremely rare, up for auction is a NEAR MINT LP OF OUTSTANDING Pierre Froidebise & Jean Absil music - performed as follows -

Pierre FROIDEBISE: Stele For Sei Shonagon (for Soprano and 19 Instruments)

Five Nursery Rhymes (for song and 11 Instruments)

Soloist - Ysel POLIART (soprano) par L'Orchestre de Liege directed by Andre Souris

Jean ABSIL: Quatuor a Clavier (Piano Quartet opus 33)

par Quatuor Belge of London

The record is from the ULTRA-rare ALPHA series of LPs (now LONG out of print), catalog # DB 44. This LP was pressed and issued on vinyl in the 1960's (??).

CONDITION Details -

The JACKET is completely intact - no seam splits. This jacket is a high quality made item, unlike most ALPHA records - quite nice for a record of this type!  Given the vintage of the record, some shelf wear can be seen with the jacket - corners are slightly weakened, slight discoloration, etc.. Overall near mint minus condition.

The LP has no detectable marks - it appears near mint and played that way (the vinyl was spot play graded)! However, it is always recommended that a thorough record cleaning be completed before playing the disc. The record has a WHITE record label, with BLACK lettering. The LP was pressed in FRANCE.

The LP is an audiophile quality pressing (any collector of fine MFSL, half speeds, direct to discs, Japanese/UK pressings etc., can attest to the difference a quality pressing can make to an audio system).

Please check out our other ebay auctions for more great LPs and CDs.

Shipping from Toronto is very reasonable to the USA, about $6.00 for the first LP, $3.00 per LP thereafter (air service).
