ALEKE KANONU, MEETS TOLBERT, THE MIRACLE MAN
"HAPPINESS" B/W "NWANNE, NWANNE, NWANNE"
(ROJEC RECORDS)
Here's one of the rarest NY underground 12", produced by the mighty Jack Taylor.
The group is from Nigeria, and this is basically an extended Afro-funk disco gospel thing.
"Happiness" is an uptown style Gospel ballad, and "Nwanne-" side is an Afrobeat excursion with tight percussions all over the place with sticky disco bassline, Yoruba vocal stabs and amazing breakdowns. It even gets psychedelic with tape delays on the vocal at times!
Not only this is a serious jam on the floor, it is also an important artifact to proove how dynamic the NY underground was, and the unique and expansive way which Jack Taylor approached African American music. The record is not dated, but I assume it is from the mid-late seventies.
Extremely RARE piece in EX condition!!!
