Description

Adventure Set -- Adventure Set 12"EP

Original 1985 US stereo private pressing on no label (catalog # AS 001, run-out groove says "MASTERED BY FRANKFORD/WAYNE NEW YORK"), in generic sleeve.

Extremely rare privately pressed EP, the one and only release from obscure but beloved Boston new-wave synth dance-funk band Adventure Set. The singer Ken Scales and bass player Brad Hallen are from Boston punk-wave favorites Pastiche. And two guys from Adventure Set (Brad Hallen and keyboard player Mark Pothier) went on to play with Al Jourgensen and Ministry, and Hallen appears on With Sympathy, Work For Love, and Twitch.

Comment from New Wave Outpost: "Adventure Set is hard to find. Rare EP, yeah. I think they only made 500 of them. Maybe 1000 IF they failed to sell most and then stored/threw the rest away. It was on their own label. Good live band, too. Them, Judy's Tiny Head, Skin and New Man were the best of the dance-funk Boston acts going in the mid-'80s."

interview with Mark Pothier from prongs.org: Q: Before getting involved with Ministry, you were in the Boston band Pastiche. Pothier: Actually, after Steve and I had started a number of bands (and played at Boston's legendary Rat club a couple dozen times), we scrapped all our material, cleansed our creative pallettes, so to speak, and started a Boston band called Adventure Set. Brad Hallen and Ken Scales, who had been in Pastiche, heard our rehearsal tapes and decided to join us. We were honored - both of them should have become stars. Adventure Set's sound was filtered through the music of bands like Roxy Music, The Cure, Gang of Four, Public Image Ltd., and a lot of American funk that was happening at the time, like Bootsy Collins. The lyrics were kind of jaded semi-political rants, sometimes disguised as quasi-love songs. It worked most of the time. We made a conscious decision to create a bit of mystery - we only played select gigs and we dressed sharply (or at least we thought we were) at time when jeans or leather ruled at clubs like The Rat and The Channel. We were quickly building momentum when Ministry intervened.

Shipping And Payment Info

Vinyl can be shipped worldwide via any method.
I will combine shipping. Winners of multiple items save substantially on shipping costs.

Within the US: Media Mail shipping is calculated automatically based on weight. NOTE: Media Mail can be S-L-O-W sometimes, especially to the West Coast. Media Mail delivery time is usually anywhere from 4 to 10 days, but occasionally it takes 2 weeks or even longer to reach the West Coast from here. Please consider this potential delay before you decide to go with Media Mail instead of Priority Mail.

Priority Mail is a highly recommended option for all vinyl, it's a lot faster and much more secure -- I double-box (and sometimes triple-box) all LP's shipped via Priority Mail. Cost is reasonable and calculated based on your zip code.

Shipping costs include delivery confirmation for all US orders.

Combine shipping with other items: The cost of each extra item is calculated automatically based on weight: if you want to add a record or CD to your order the cost is less than $1, usually around 50 cents per extra item depending on total weight.

Outside the US: shipping is calculated automatically based on your country and the weight of the record. IMPORTANT: Priority Mail International and Express Mail International are the only services which provide tracking. First Class Mail International is normally a very reliable service, but it does not provide tracking so if you choose First Class Mail International you agree not to hold me responsible in the unlikely event of loss or damage to the package -- please review my 12+ years of 13000+ positive feedbacks if you have any concerns, and contact me for more details.
Combine shipping with other items: If you want to add a normal-weight record (7", 12", or LP) or CD to your order the cost is reasonable, usually not more than $3.99 per extra item, often less, depending on total weight.

All records are packaged securely, protected by both stiff and cushion packaging.

I can usually accommodate special shipping requests or special payment requirements, just ask.
