Ok, here it is folks…in my 25+ years of collecting AC/DC rarities and memorabilia, I have *NEVER* found one of these tour programs for sale on Ebay. EVER. I’ve searched endlessly for this tour book, and it has proved to be one of the most elusive AC/DC rarities in the world, definitely a “top 5” category AC/DC mega rarity in my opinion. I doubt that there are too many of these tour programs left in existence today.
This tour program was issued in AUSTRALIA ONLY making it limited to begin with.
It was issued in 1976 during AC/DC’s “A Giant Dose Of Rock ‘n Roll” tour of Australia only, which was only a small number of shows, about 20 total, making it that much scarcer.
And now for the best part,…only a few shows into the tour, the tour book was withdrawn. It was forcibly pulled by authorities who had already at the time, deemed AC/DC to be a threat to the social morals of Australia’s youth by a certain minister of the Australian parliament, who went as far as denouncing the band, citing AC/DC “as a cause for the moral decline in the nation’s youth”. In addition to the slack the band was receiving at the time (much due to Angus' strip/moon routine on stage, in which he was threatened with arrest while the band was touring the UK) and Due to a not so politically correct quote inside the book on bass player Mark Evans’ page, the program was pulled and production was stopped on making any more.
A quote from a Mark Evans (former AC/DC bass player) interview from 2006:
“The original name of the tour was “The little c**** are back” - it wasn’t our idea, it was the promoters’ idea, but they wouldn’t let us do it. We had a tour program that got taken off the market because we couldn’t sell it. It had a photo of each of us with a quote underneath. You know Rod Stewart? He used to have this beautiful wife called Brit Eklund… and I was in love with her. So my quote was “I like to make enough money, so I can f*** Brit Eklund.” They banned it, the police took all the copies.”
The program is now 36 years old, and not getting any easier to come by.
The program is in good condition, particularly for its age. It still has a good amount of gloss to the pages, although there is a bit of a crease down the middle, which is most evident on the cover (see photos) but is otherwise damage free (ie. there are no severe rips or writing in the program which can be often found on old collectibles like this). The middle poster of the band however is missing from the program. Despite the missing center poster pages, this tour program is incredibly rare and valuable!! A real gem and must have for the serious AC/DC fan and collector! You won't be finding another one of these again, or if you're lucky maybe in another 25 years.
