This record is from my personal collection of vinyl bought new between the 1950s and the 1980s. They have been played on a Garrard AT6 deck until 1970 and from then on a Thorens TD 160 deck. In my description I will attempt to follow 'Record Collector' grading for the vinyl and I promise not to indulge in purple prose, multi-coloured exotic fonts and exclamation mark diarrhoea. Nor will I make wild claims of rarity or value, it's you, the good bidders of ebay, who decide these things. I guarded my vinyl fanatically, and have ex-friends to prove it! I will attempt to mention all the points that prevent the record being described as mint. Good luck to you in your bidding and I hope my old vinyl ends up in a good home where it will continue to be cherished! All records are cleaned and listened to carefully before being graded and put on ebay.

The Record

Reaction Mono 1966 593002

Matrix: 593002 A//2; 59300 B//2

Stamper: looks like 11 and 15 but I may be misinterpreting the scratched on numbers

Appearance: Side 1 has 2 or 3 surface marks and a surface scratch over the last 2 tracks, Side 2 has a few more surface marks and 3 longish surface scratches. The surface marks and scratches don't show up in the sound, see below. The record sits flat and plays flat.

The sound: SIDE 1 - there is background crackle audible on the run-in, between the tracks and on the run-out, and a little at the start of track 6 which is soon inaudible when the band strikes up; SIDE 2 - background crackle audible on the run-in, the run-out and between tracks, and one "pop" audible once on track 4.

The band play full throttle all through this LP, Keith is at his energetic best, but on "A Quick One While He's Away" they really go for it, a glorious sound, my ears were ringing for quite a while after my listening test. In fact, I nearly changed my mind about putting this one on Ebay!

Grading: I would rate the record as VG+/EX

Note on listening test: in addition to the pre-sale clean the record is cleaned with a carbon fibre brush before being played. The rig used for listening is the trusty Thorens deck with a Shure M75ED type 2 cartridge, an Arcam Alpha 8 amplifier and Sennheiser HD 455 headphones. The cartridge stylus is cleaned before playing each side. The volume is set quite high, but not ear-bleedingly so!

The Sleeve

Front of sleeve: the laminate has small creases around the edges, a larger at the bottom left corner, and near the bottom right corner. There is faint outer ring wear and at certain angles the laminate looks a little hazy, but overall it's not in bad shape for it's age.

Rear of sleeve: a few minor creases to the laminate round the outer edge, faint outer ring wear, the same haziness at certain angles as the front, and at the bottom left corner the card has just begun to lift a little from the flap of the front of the sleeve. There is a number written small a lttle above the centre.

Grading: I would grade the sleeve as VG/VG+

The Inner Sleeve

The inner sleeve (the original) is a little darkened and somewhat crumpled at the four corners. This sleeve will be included in the package but the record will be shipped in a new plain white sleeve.

The record will be cleaned before packing then shipped in a new inner sleeve, outside the outer sleeve, and in a strong mailer reinforced with extra card. If you want extra postal services (such as recorded delivery or insurance cover) then ask for a quote: whatever you are prepared to pay for you may have.
