Description
From a History of Shellac website providing bullet-style information by year, this is the entry from 1894:
"1894 American Graphophone and Columbia Phonograph companies merge under the Columbia name and the progenitor of today's Columbia Record Company is born. Berliner's U.S. Gramophone Company (1893) produces one-sided, seven-inch, two-minute discs for 50 cents apiece. Discs run at 70 rpm."
That would seem to fit this shellac - it is one-sided, has the Columbia production information on front with the American Graphophone Co. label on back indicating a 50 cent price. So it may be a 70 RPM disc instead of a 78 RPM disc.
This one provides a version of "Almost Persuaded" by Chimes, and is No. 44 in their series. The shellac looks pretty clean without heavy scratches, and could very well be playable on the correct record player.
