Lee Perry: Revolution Dub
Revolution Dub is an album by Lee Perry & The Upsetters, released in Jamaica in 1975 in very small quantities. It features radical, groundbreaking drum & bass mixes, sound effects (including bizarre excerpts of British comedy recorded from the radio), heavy bass, vocals by Perry himself, and an early use of a drum machine in reggae. This is some of the earliest available dub material mixed by Lee "Scratch" Perry, who would soon make a name for himself as a dub master with classic, internationally distributed albums such as Super Ape (Island 1976). Other early Scratch groundbreaking dub albums include the fine Rhythm Shower (Trojan). Scratch's first dub album, the 1973 super classic Blackboard Jungle Dub was mixed by dub originator and master King Tubby, who taught Perry a great deal at Dynamic Sound studios before Scratch went out on his own and opened his famous Black Ark Studios in January 1974.

The Upsetters: Super Ape
Super Ape is a dub album produced and engineered by Lee "Scratch" Perry, credited to his studio band The Upsetters.
In Jamaica, the album was released under the name Scratch the Super Ape in July 1976 on Perry's own Upsetter label. The Jamaican version had a different track order than the international version that was released in August the same year on Island Records. This is the international version.

The Revolutionaries: Reaction In Dub
The Revolutionaries (sometimes known as "Revolutionaires") is a Jamaican reggae band.
Set up in 1975 as the house band of the Channel One Studios owned by Joseph Hoo Kim, The Revolutionaries with Sly Dunbar on drums and Robbie Shakespeare on bass, created the new "rockers" style that would change the whole Jamaican sound (from roots reggae to dub) and be imitated in all other productions. Beside Sly and Robbie, many musicians played in the band: Bertram McLean, Radcliffe "Dougie" Bryan on guitar, Ossie Hibbert, Errol "Tarzan" Nelson, Robert Lyn or Ansel Collins on keyboards, Uziah "Count Sticky" Thompson, Noel "Scully" Simms on percussion, Tommy McCook, Herman Marquis on saxophone, Bobby Ellis on trumpet and Vin Gordon on trombone.
The band played on numerous dub albums and recorded as a backing band for artists like B. B. Seaton, Black Uhuru, Culture, Prince Alla, Leroy Smart, Gregory Isaacs, John Holt, The Heptones, I-Roy, Tapper Zukie, Trinity, U Brown, Errol Scorcher, Serge Gainsbourg among others.

Rico: Man from Wareika (on Blue Note BN-LA819-H)
One of the most prolific session players of Jamaica's pre-ska era, trombonist Rico Rodriguez later emerged as a catalyst behind the UK's 2-Tone movement of the late 1970s, recording both as a solo artist and as a member of the legendary Specials. Born October 17, 1934, his musical pursuits began while attending Kingston's Alpha Cottage School, an institution for wayward boys, where he studied trombone under the legendary Don Drummond. In the years to follow, Rodriguez emerged as one of Jamaica's most highly regarded session musicians, often working under the direction of the renowned producer Duke Reid. In 1961, in the months prior to the explosion of the ska phenomenon, he relocated to the UK, where he recorded a number of sides for the fledgling Island label and gigged extensively on the jazz and R&B circuits, playing with Georgie Fame's Blue Flames and others. He also remained a top-notch session man, appearing on Sugar & Dandy's 1967 classic "A Message to You Rudy," among others.

Despite maintaining a permanent residence in Britain, Rodriguez held fast to his strong Rastafarian beliefs, and Island frequently paid for him to return to Kingston to record with the city's most prominent session players; while his forte remained jazz, he adapted brilliantly to any environment, and applied his improvisational skills to productions from notables including Sly & Robbie. In 1977, Rodriguez also cut a solo LP, Man from Wareika, credited to simply "Rico; " it was followed a year later by Midnight in Ethiopia. In 1979, he appeared on the Specials' cover of "A Message to You Rudy," and soon joined the band as a full-time member; for the group's 2-Tone label, Rodriguez also helmed his own outfit, Rico and the Rudies, to yield the albums Blow Your Horn and Brixton Cat. Again as Rico, he also cut another pair of solo LPs, 1981's That Man Is Forward and its 1982 follow-up Jama. Session work was then primary focus for over a decade, but in the mid-1990s Rodriguez returned with a number of solo projects, among them 1995's Roots to the Bone and 1997's Tribute to Don Drummond.

Chuck Fenda: The Living Fire
CHUCK FENDA hat die letzten zehn Jahre mit allen großen Produzenten Jamaikas gearbeitet. Mit "GASH DEM" landete er im vergangenen Jahr einen großen Reggae-Hit, und das obwohl der Song aus dem Radio verbannt wurde.

THE ETERNAL FLAME hat er mit Jamaica's premier producer Shane Brown (Juke Boxx Productions) aufgenommen und zeigt ihn musikalisch noch gereifter. Neben "GASH DEM" enthält das Album mit "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" eine Attacke auf die Radiosender, die seinen Song gebannt hatten. Mit von der Partie auf seinem neuen Album sind unter anderem Dancehallqueen Tanya Stephens, Richie Spice "Working For" und Cherine Anderson. Chuck Fenda wird man sich merken müssen!    

Chuck Fenda, aka "The Poor People's Defender" is releasing his first album on Greensleeeves on March 27th entitled "The Living Fire".
The album includes the Jamaican chart topping social commentary track "Gash Dem", which was banned from Jamaican airwaves because of its incendiary lyrical content. It also includes "Coming Over", a track that features Cherine Anderson (actress from the film "Dancehall Queen" and "One Love"), which has been undoubtedly one of the biggest hits of the year so far.
Chuck Fenda rose to prominence in the dancehall scene in the late 90's, where he was a hardcore dancehall dj with tunes like "Shut Yuh Mouth" and 'Badda Badda". Fender soon after had found Rastafarianism and his sound has evolved into a more conscious sound. He linked up with 5th Element Records (home to Richie Spice) and put out his debut album "Better Days" which included such hits as "I Swear", "Better Days", and "Haffi Win".
Now on a solo roll, Fenda is still on fire, blazing up the streets and the charts. His new album "The Living Fire" features collaborations with artists such as Tanya Stephens, Richie Spice, and Cherine Anderson.

The Goldmine Grading System:

Mint (M)
Absolutely perfect in every way - certainly never played, possibly even still sealed. Should be used sparingly as a grade, if at all.

Near Mint (NM or M-)
A nearly perfect record.
The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.  An LP jacket should have no creases, folds, seam-splits or any other noticeable similar defect. No cut-out holes, either. And of course, the same should be true of any inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, and the like.  Basically, an LP in Near Mint condition looks as if you just got it home and removed the shrink wrap.

Excellent (EX)
Between NM and VG+

Very Good Plus (VG+)
A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it.
Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.  The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play.
Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, turned-up corners, or a slight seam-split. An LP jacket may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print or sold at a discount.
In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus record highly acceptable.
 
Very Good (VG)
Many of the defects found in the VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as well as light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.  Labels will be marred by writing, or have tape [TOL] or stickers [SOL] (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers [TOC] or [SOC]. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.
 
Good (G), Good Plus (G+)
Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put on a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A jacket or sleeve will have seam-splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.

Poor (P), Fair (F)
The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP jacket barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled, and written upon.
