PRIMITIVES Help Me /Let Them Tell (Pye 7N 15721) G+ edge warp Vinyl is in mainly VG to VG- but someone left it near an original 60s radiator or something and the edge sustained a heat warp. The good news is that as heat warps go, it’s about as lucky an outcome as you could want, because rather than developing a big ‘ski-jump’ bump, all that’s happened is the surface seems to have lightly rumpled over about 3” of the circumference resulting in a surface that looks like beaten copper but has hardly any vertical rise (see photos for details). Sound-wise, the affected area produces a ‘swoosh’ for about half a second on each rev of the deadwax, which is then either completely or nearly eliminated (hard to tell with the music coming in loud and abrupt) once the music kicks in – certainly gone within the first rev or two on my player. The rest of the track has some crackles consistent with a generally VG- playing surface, but shouldn’t be a problem for a DJ or as a filler for a ‘shelf’ collection.
