32ND TURNOFF Lp featuring EDDY GRANT and brother CONRAN produced by EDDY GRANT. Original UK pressing on JAY BOY label (JSL 1) from 1969. Killer, raw and underground sounding black psych with Caribbean influenced funk and pounding psychedelic rock arrangements, masterminded by Brixton based reggae / rocksteady / obscure freakbeat / funk producer and cult artist, Eddy Grant. Stunning music, recorded before his personal debut Lp on Torpedo label / Zapatta Schmidt / Zubaba and Sundae Times studio projects. Definitely his most psychedelic, funky and rocked-out studio recording and the first ever release on the Jay Boy label. Hendrix meets psychedelic Brixton featuring brutal funk drums by brother Conran / acid fuzz guitars / explosive rhythms and basslines on AWAY YOU GO and YOUNG PEOPLE with politically charged message and B-boy drum breaks midway. Glam rock excess on the ever 'en vogue' club tune, USED TO BE A TIGER and heady CHARGING UP FOR THE LAST TIME. Bugged-out funk rock with cool rapping lyrics / weird scat / Patois etc on the ARMADILLO WALKED TO MISSOURI. Moody Hendrix influenced groove to STREET WALKER and WEST INDIAN WOMAN. Musically, this session completely destroys Purple Image / African People / Black Merda et al :) Hard to believe Eddy was only in his early '20s when this was made too. Great for DJs. Stripped back, dub and primitive garage style production / wah wah / afro horns / flute / hip hop beats and delirious ghetto soul vocals. Will appeal to lovers of the Chains And Black Exhaust funk rock mix and the funkiest side of Jimi Hendrix. Our soundclip opens with a sample of drum breaks from YOUNG PEOPLE followed by most of the Lp. Amazing, pop art inspired sleeve artwork. Very rare Lp!!! Full track listing: AWAY YOU GO / STREET WALKER / WEST INDIAN WOMAN / YOUNG PEOPLE / USED TO BE A TIGER / ARMADILLO WALKED TO MISSOURI / BABY (HONEY) WHAT YOU DOIN' TO ME / CHARGING UP FOR THE LAST TIME / THEN I'LL WALK OUT THE DOOR

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in strong VG++ condition overall with some mini scuffs and hairlines. Light surface noises. Some, faded old pressing marks (but common for early Jay Boy label releases, in general). Some soft pops / ticks (as you can hear) but mostly to near the end of  the "Away You Go" and midway "Armadillo Walked.." theme. The soft card, textured picture sleeve is in VG++ condition overall with ring wear / ring dirt marks / natural age discoloration. Small seam split to bottom open side corner. Brown thin lines run across back sleeve but these are a result of the original printing process. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Very rare Lp!!!
