This auction is for two rare 33-1/3 long-playing 10" radio transcription discs of The Goon Show, starring Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe and Peter Sellers.  The Goon Show was broadcast on radio from about 1951 through 1960 and was a huge influence on the members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus among others.  John Cleese once stated "The Goon Show influenced us enormously".  These discs are for two complete programs: “Personal Narrative – 33” and “The Spectre of Tintagel – 34”.  They were produced by the BBC and were intended for broadcast by 4/4/1960.  The two records are a set and must stay together because Part One of each program is on one disc and Part Two is on the other, I assume that's so the radio DJ did not have to flip the disc over during broadcast.  The records are in immaculate condition.  I have tried to show the surface of each side in the photographs.  I have never played these since, as a Goon Show fan, I have the programs on commercial CDs.  The sleeves are not in good shape, being torn and somewhat stained.  However, the original plastic liner in each sleeve has protected the surfaces of the records.  There are also sheets that give the cues as to when each part of the program starts and ends and also notes all the musical numbers.  This is a rare opportunity to own a little bit of authentic British radio history.
