Description
1963 Jimmy Giuffre Free Form Jazz M- LP - Free Fall (Original)
Jimmy Giuffre - Free Fall (Columbia CL 1964). Free Fall is a studio album by Jimmy Giuffre, released in 1963. Giuffre was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and arranger. He is known for developing forms of jazz which allowed for free interplay between the musicians, anticipating forms of free improvisation. Allmusic considers Free Fall "one of the most revolutionary recordings to come out of the 1960s," and the Penguin Guide to Jazz awards it a "crown" and includes it in its "Core Collection" list. It features Giuffre backed by Paul Bley on piano and Steve Swallow on bass. Jurek writes that Free Fall, their final record, "was such radical music, no one, literally no one, was ready for it and the group disbanded shortly thereafter on a night when they made only 35 cents apiece for a set." Cuts include: Propulsion; Threewe; Ornothoids; Dichotomy; Man Alone; Spasmodic; Yggdrasill; Divided Man; Primordial Call; and, The Five Ways. Record and cover are in M- condition. The label is standard red but the cover has "Demonstration. Not For Sale" and "Property of KTTR" stamped on the back. (I never use Mint as a condition, but I will venture no needle has ever touched this disc.)
