Today we are offering for sale an all-original 1956 12" 33 RPM LP record The Charlie Mingus Jazz "Pithecanthropus Erectus" vinyl record! Charles Mingus (1922-1979) was an American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader. Pithecanthropus Erectus, released in 1956, is the first album where Mingus taught arrangements to his musicians by ear in lieu of putting the chords and arrangements in writing. The record is in very good vintage condition, has been tested, and plays very well with no scuffs or scratches. Today we are offering for sale an all-original 12" 33-1/3 RPM LP record "Pithecanthropus Erectus" by The Charlie Mingus Jazz! Charles Mingus (1922-1979) was an American jazz double bassist, pianist, composer and bandleader. A major proponent of collective improvisation, he is considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers in history, with a career spanning three decades and collaborations with other jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Dannie Richmond, and Herbie Hancock. Pithecanthropus Erectus, released in 1956, is the first album where Mingus taught arrangements to his musicians by ear in lieu of putting the chords and arrangements in writing. The album features four tracks:
"Pithecanthropus Erectus" – 10:36
"A Foggy Day" – 7:50 (George Gershwin)
"Profile of Jackie" – 3:11
"Love Chant" – 14:59
The record is in very good vintage condition, has been tested, and plays very well with no scuffs or scratches. The jacket is also in very good and clean condition with some very slight wear. Overall, this is a great copy of this timeless classic record, and is a must-have for any Charlie Mingus fan, or Jazz enthusiast!
