Description
This lot represents the largest group of the life-long collection of a recently deceased theatre and movie buff. His apartment had to be cleaned out and this treasure-trove is now for sale. The collection spans over 50 years of musical history. Original cast stage albums run from Oklahoma! and My fair lady through Grease, Les Miz, Cats, Evita, Baker Street and hundreds more. Movies run from mid-50s through around 2006. There are numerous examples of European productions as well as New York. Some minor duplication; if the winning bidder wants all different I'll be able to do so; I still have a couple hundred I haven't had a chance to sort through.
Condition: Well above average for a lot of this size; virtually all of the vinyl is NM or better; due to the fact that the collection was roughly handled by building management staff in clearing out the apartment and piling the records in the building basement, expect some jacket scuffing and an occasional seam split, but this is very much the exception rather than the rule, many records throughout still have original shrink and some are even unopened. An incredible opportunity for a collector and a highly useful one for a dealer or a flea market vendor.
Starting bid: Only 33 cents a record; a collection like this would likely cost $3000-$6000 to duplicate.
Shipping: I will stick to a shipping fee of $300.00 for a US destination; this includes the cost of 15 or more cartons; this will minimize the chance of damage or loss in shipping and shipment by Media Mail; this advice was given to me by a professional shipper whose services I will use. Of course, if the winning bidder wishes to come to Brooklyn with a van or SUV; I would be delighted to waive the shipping and assist in loading the lot. I will also use the shipper of the winning bidder's choice, if an account number is furnished.
International bidders are welcome even though I am specifying no International Shipping; but please await my invoice which will reflect a fair but of course somewhat higher shipping charge which includes overseas freight; any customs duties will be the responsibility of the recipient.
