Edoardo GARBIN (Padova 1865 – Brescia 1943)

A student of Alberto Selva and Vittorio Orefice in Milano, Garbin made his debut in 1896 in Vicenza as Don Alvaro in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino. The following years he sang in Genova the leading tenor role in the world premiere of Franchetti’s Cristoforo Colombo. Among the other roles he created were Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff (  La Scala, 1893, to the Nanetta  of Adelina Stehle, whom he later married), Milio in Leocavallo’s Zaza ( Milano Teatro Lirico, 1900) and the title role in Montemezzi’s Giovanni Gallurese (Torino, 1905). His career included the major Italian houses, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Ayres, Covent Garden, the Opera Comique and leading theatres in Poland and Russia.
