Welcome to Monroe Rare Records! Every record I sell comes directly from my father’s collection (Jay Monroe Sr.)

The collection he left behind is extremely large and very well cared for. I am not a record flipper, I only sell records from my father’s collection and he spent the majority of his life collecting completing label runs with only the best copies. Labels such as Ace, Aladdin, Brunswick, Checker, Chance, Duke, Excello, Federal, Groove, Hollywood, Imperial, JAX, King, Modern, Meteor, Parrot, Phillips, RCA, RPM, States, Starday and Sun including smaller more obscure labels. He collected Blues, R&B, Doo-Wop, Soul and Rockabilly. Represented are vinyl 45’s shellac 78’s, EP’s and LP’s. Test pressings both released and unreleased will be listed as well. I use the Goldmine grading system with most of the VG+ records being VG++ (M- to most collectors) as I grade conservatively. If a record is listed as M- it will look and play as though it was pressed yesterday. The records I list are all original with matrix #’s provided and a 100% MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! Thank you for looking and please feel free to check out other listings coming out every week.

My father worked at Savoy records in Newark NJ when he was a teenager, sweeping floors. He was able to fill his trunk with records and test presses often. I couldn’t find a single sales record for this particular 45 as it comes up as Little Ester on and nothing on Discogs. There was a lot of interest in this 45 at the Allentown record show but I wouldn’t sell it as I couldn’t find a sales history copy with Johnny Otis Orch. I have a feeling this is an extremely rare Savoy.

—NOTE: Not all 1950s Savoy 45s used a single uniform method; their dead wax markings featured both hand-etched and machine-stamped matrix numbers depending entirely on when and where the specific record was manufactured. [1]-
