Description

Vinyl LP:

BEN “Ben" (Vertigo 6360 052) original UK 1971 FIRST pressing (gatefold cover)

Probably not too much introduction needed here – one of the rarest UK albums on one of the most collectable labels... VERTIGO UK ORIGINAL in unlaminated sleeve. Superb jazzy prog throughout...

First (and presumably only) pressing. Matrix stampers: SIDE A: 6360052 1Y// 420 and SIDE B: 6360052 2Y// 420

CONDITION : (Sleeve/Record) VG+/GOOD- *

DESCRIPTION : Okay, cutting straight to the chase – this record hasn’t been looked after – seems a strange one to take to parties, but there you go. I’ll attempt a detailed description so you know what to expect – it’s an incredibly rare album for sure and most of us can only dream of owning a mint or even excellent (or even VG) copy, so this might help plug the gap in the Vertigo collection in the meantime...

The cover is in pretty good shape, especially considering its age and the fact that it’s mostly white – there’s some slight yellowing discolouration and light edge wear. Top corner has a small tear where a sticker has been removed – doesn’t stand out too much since it (was) white paper on a white background... all edges fully intact, spine still legible. Inner gatefold is excellent.

Swirl inner sleeve shows some light discolouration and wear – but it’s a correct polythene lined one.

Record labels are in excellent shape. The record, however, has plenty of surface scuffs and numerous scratches (some quite long) you can feel which interfere with play. The record plays with background crackle, and has lots of pops and clicks  – sometimes in louder passages this blends into the background, in some quieter passages it doesn’t. There are NO jumps and NO sticks... and the second half of the second side is pretty much pop free and plays with only light crackle...

So there you go, I’ve tried to be as honest as possible – a fairly tatty copy of a £500+ album which could fill the gap in your collection until you win the lottery. And even then – can you guarantee a copy of this will be offered for sale????!!!!

*RECORD COLLECTOR definition of GOOD: “The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, with some distortion and mild scratches”
