Seit den 60er Jahren galt Klaus Koch als einer der führenden Bassisten der Jazzszene in der DDR. Als experimentierfreudiger und neue Entwicklungen fördernder Musiker ist er sowohl solistische hervorgetreten als auch an der ´Emanzipation´ des Kontrabasses in unterschiedlichen Gruppenkonstellationen maßgeblich beteiligt gewesen. Die Funktion des Kontrabasses im zeitgenössischen Jazz sieht er im wesentlichen dahingehend erweitert, „dass er nicht mehr ausschließlich rhythmische und harmonische Aufgaben zu erfüllen hat, sondern bei der melodischen Gestaltung den anderen Instrumenten gleichberechtigt gegenübersteht“. from his OWN COLLECTION!
