MEV / AMM "Live Electronic Music Improvised" Mainstream ms5002, 1968. Lp EX- (sleeve marks, plays beautifully!); heavy gatefold jacket EX/EX- (very lovely and sturdy, just a minor corner bump top left, and on the pocket which holds lp is a top seam crack of three inches) (I always store, and will ship, this lp outside of the jacket, so no further stress is put on the seam crack). *** Completely massive statement-in-sound from the twin pioneering groups of avant out-sound from the heady 1960s. Flower power? Not bloody likely! These noiseniks were blasting flat any vegetation within a few hundred yards, judging by this insanely intense shared album of sonic mayhem. Musica Elettronica Viva were from Rome (not to be confused with the French 'wing' of the group, which actually did have a sort of commune vibe happening--but still, their "Sound Pool" is a ferocious beast, too! I digress...) and featured here are Allan Bryant, Alvin Curran, Frederic Rzewski, Richard Teitelbaum and Ivan Vandor. Their towering contribution is "Spacecraft" and takes up side A. Side B is of course the amazing Brits, AMM. Classic early 5-man lineup here, of Cornelius Cardew, Lou Gare, Christopher Hobbs, Eddie Prevost and Keith Rowe. I can only smile and imagine what the Pink Floyd fans thought of AMM when they opened for the Barrett and co. Just does not get any more VITAL than this, kids. Beautiful gatefold, with notes by Rzewski and Cardew. NOT TO BE MISSED!
