John Coltrane Giant Steps  Black Label Atlantic 1311 Mono First Pressing.  Hand etched in run out groove on side 1 '11637-A'   and 'AT6'.  Hand Etched on side 2 is '11638 A' & 'AT4'.   

The reviews of this album suggest that the Mono version features Coltrane's sax front and center unlike the stereo version, and being a Coltrane album, this is probably the version you want.  Comparisons bewteen this and the deep groove version, also suggest this is the better sounding version.   The record sleeve is in at least VG+ condition with very light wear to corners, a couple of small pen marks in front of 3 song titles, and much of the cover's gloss still remaining.  There is no original inner sleeve, though a new one is provided.  The album is in VG+ condition. There are some visible light marks, no major scratches, etc.   I played it on my Linn LP12 table with Ittok arm through Quad Electrostats. There is little surface noise other than you would expect from any new pressing, perhaps even less on side 2 than 1.  Few light scratches, rarely audible, and nothing to distract from the performance.

GRADING (Done visually, based on Goldmine)

Near Mint (NM or M-)

The record should show no obvious signs of wear and will be glossy/shiny. A sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. No cracks, scratches or warps.

Excellent (EX or VG++)

One or two light marks visible on the disc at most, otherwise full gloss. No cracks, scratches or warps. Sleeve shows 1-2 marks, nothing too major, maybe at the edges.

Very Good Plus (VG+) 

A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled.

Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Maybe also slight warps that do not affect the sound.

Sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly bent corners, or a slight seam split.

Very Good (VG)

Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during the intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
