Description
hi, i'm going to try and list around 20 reggae records a week over the next month or so, should be some roots and some 60's stuff, all with a low start price so please have a look.
This one is very very rare i think.
ARTIST: bob marley and the wailers, b side mortimer plano
TITLE: selassie is the chapel / a little prayer
LABEL: v rocket blank/pre
VINYL CONDITION: VG- / VG+
COUNTRY OF ISSUE: JA
MATRIX CODE: DYNA VR 238 b side 239
COMMENTS: i've had this quite a while but didn't realise that it was so rare until i recently read about it. i wrote the song titles on the labels when i got this record so there is writing on the labels, sorry! the labels appear water damaged, it was like that when i got it. there is a nice shine on this record and the sound quality is nice and clear. as the record is quite a quiet record (hymn like accoustic) any tiny mark is audible on the record, so there are some pops and clicks on the a side (most at the start), less on the b side. if this was a louder record / more upbeat tune this record would be graded higher i.e it looks great but as its quiet you can hear every tiny mark.
according to things i've read on the net this was originally released as a limited 26 copies, then with a reissue of 200 -250 later on. apparently the reissue was pressed using the original stamper which was damaged, and therefore the represses were all pressed with a jump at the end. this copy doesn't jump at all so is this one of the originals? heres the stuff from a specialist wailers web site that i read http://www.wailer.de/?page_id=112&page=5
Mortimer Planno Productions
Blank, Original, 1968
Selassie Is The Chapel (no credit) (Matrix: DYNA VR 238) /
A Little Prayer (no credit) (Matrix: DYNA VR 249)
The tracks were recorded June 8th 1968 and privately pressed soon after in a limited quantity of 26 with 12 sent to Haile Selassie as a gift. Of the 14 others one seems to be in the hands of RS, JC, GD, ND has two, maybe BB, SB, LP, TW, IM own one, one or more I would try to locate in Japan, …
Blank, Repressing, 1978
Selassie Is The Chapel (no credit) (Matrix: DYNA VR 238) /
A Little Prayer (no credit) (Matrix: DYNA VR 249)
A second pressing was made by Clive Chin in 1978 using the original stamper. Omce Clive Chin said 150 – 200 were made, at another time he said 250 were pressed – I was told, all with the same skip near the end of the song as the original vinyl source as the stamper had a damage.
i've had quite a few questions about this record, so i thought i'd add a few more pictures of the bob marley side and just to state a few more facts. i think the 4th photo should show the matrix numbers. facts wise there are no warps, stains or heavy soiling thats visible in the vinyl. the vinyl has a pretty good sheen, the second photo was taken outside, the 3rd and 4th inside under a strong light. the record looks alot better than the VG- / VG grading i've given this record. this grading was given as the music is of an accoustic chanting prayer like sound, no loud electric instruments, so any small marks on the vinyl are audible, on a regular sounding reggae record with full band and horns these marks on the vinyl would probably not be audible.
i've no idea if this is an original or one of the represses, i guess the numbers would suggest a repress, but which ever its still a very very rare and possibly one of the earliest roots records i've heard!
bidders with less than 5 feedback please contact me before bidding or i will cancel your bids, sorry.
All records listed in my auctions have been play graded (throughout the whole record!), and all should be at least VG- quality. Any that jump or skip have been going in the bin! for label condition please see the picture. the records will be mainly from the late 60's to the mid 70's. i am happy to combine postage to international destinations. if the record is not as described i will offer a full refund, i've got a 100% feedback from buying and selling records and will strive to keep it that way. only buyers with a registered paypal account will be able to bid on my auctions. if you are outbid at the last minuite by someone new to ebay with a zero feedback score you have just been outbid by 'the fake bidder' and will probably recieve a second chance offer, sorry about this, but not much we can do. records will be mailed in proper record mailers and sent royal mail 2nd class in the uk, airmail abroad. if you require insurance or a signature for your records please contact me after the auction ends, this will be charged at royal mail cost. payment within 5 days of auction ending please. records should be posted within 3 days of recieving payment. any questions, please feel free to email me, thanks for looking
record gradings:
nr mint: as new condition, looks perfect and plays perfectly!
ex: record has clearly been played, but is in great condition, plays with no sound deterioration, may have the odd feint mark on the record which doesn't effect play at all
vg: record has been played quite alot but is still in nice condition and will sound great. there will be some light marks on the record and maybe the odd bit of crackle, click or pop, but nothing serious.
g: record will play without jumps or skips but will have lots of surface scratches and click and pop and maybe a little hiss even
+ or - will be used to sway the gradings.
