This year's Record Store Day has been nothing short of sensational, with countless gems from the past having been made available once again, but this morbidly sough-after collaboration between Peter Zummo and Arthur Russell will have die-hard fans of both artists salivating manically. In all honesty, it is an outstanding piece of music and one which fully deserved an official reissue. This forward-thinking pair of artists were so ahead of the game back in the 80's that it's impossible to think how people reacted to this stuff back then. The opener, "Sci-Fi" is their familiar bundle of horns, delays and violins, all blended together with Russell's vocal laments, whereas "Slow Heart" heads into deeper, more rhythmic territories. On the flip, "Song VI" is a mesmerising battle between xylophones, marching shreds of percussion and extravagantly-timed delay shots, while the Quintet version drops in a much-welcomed dose of Russell's goofy lyricism. Not to be missed.
