Description
I am in the initial stages of breaking up a large and very well maintained record collection.
The Goldmine rating system is explained below;
1. Mint = Perfect
2. Near Mint = Almost Perfect, like it was just opened for the first time. All the original inner sleeves, posters, records cover etc. are present. The recorditself is shiny, free of visual defects, no surface noise on playback. A record can be NM even though it has been played depending on the care taken and the equipment used. Labels are properly pressed and centered, free of writing, stickers and spindle marks, blemishes and any other markings. Cover /Sleeve is free of creases, ring wear and seam splits. The picture sleeve looks as if no record was ever in it with a NM rating.
3. Very Good Plus = Except for a few minor issue, these records would be VG. Most collectors who want to play their records will be happy withVG especially if its towards the high end of the grade The record may show light scuffs, or very light scratches that DO NOT affect the listening quality. There may be minor spindle marks in the VG grade, but the labels are free of writing, stickers, or major blemishes. The cover/sleeve may show some minor seam wear which is considered a split LESS THAN 1 inch.
4. Very Good = This rating shows more obvious flaws than the VG+ rating. These are the biggest bargains in records sales. These records sound great and are often used in jukeboxes. They show obvious signs of wear and handling including visible groove wear, audible scratches and surface noise, ring wear and seam splits. The records lack the original shiny gloss and groove wear is evident. There may be scratches deep enough to feels with a fingernail. Labels may have writing, or stickers. The cover/sleeve show obvious signs of human handling. Ring wear may be evident, along with seam splits, discoloration, bent corners and if there are two, or more defects like this the grade should be dropped one grade.
****The value of each record is based on E-Bay final sales research, internet research and I refer to the Goldmine estimated value system, 2013.
