YVES KLEIN / CHARLES WILP - (PRINCE OF SPACE) - "MUSIK DER LEERE" - " TANZ DER LEERE" on RESCO SSLP 2 // SIGHT & SOUND PRODUCTIONS LONDON / DÜSSELDORF
Record: mint (-), although there is no sound on the record, it has spindle marks, obviously it has been put on a record player at least once
Sleeve: vg++, slight cornerwear, slight coloration, some darker spots, but still one of the best looking covers I have ever seen of this item, internet included. Original stitched inner sleeve.
This record of recorded nothing/void can be seen in good company to John Cage´s silent piano piece 4:33 or as the silent second part of Yves Klein´s orchestral piece "symphony Monotone-Silence" from 1947. Klein was fascinated by the concept of emptiness. He created for example the endless seaming, completely white room "La vide" (Die Leere), which was enlighted by hardly visible neon lights, for an exhibition in Krefeld, Germany, in the 50s. In ´59 he made up the concept of recording complete silence - "Musik der Leere" and "Tanz der Leere". Charles Wilp, who had studied together with Klein, recorded this with the "Outerspace Philharmonic Orchestra" feat. a "Cosmos Berthold Finkelstein" as soloist on an (unhearable) instrument called "helikon". You can also link this record to some works of the german artist Wolfgang Müller and his group "Die tödliche Doris", who also like to work with non existing things and pure imagination.
The particular copy here of this incredibly rare record/art object, which was only sold at exhibitions or given away by Wilp himself, some autographed, always with date, comes from Wilps hometown and was once owned by someone closely related to the Düsseldorf "Kunstakademie" and art scene.
