For this one album, ex-Buggles Geoffrey Downes and Trevor Horn were drafted in to replace Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman. It rocks harder than other Yes albums, and for classically inclined fans, it was a jarring departure; but it was a harbinger of Yes and Asia albums to come. A newly emboldened Chris Squire lays down aggressive rhythms with Alan White, and Steve Howe eschews his usual acoustic rags and flamenco licks for a more metallic approach, opting for sheets of electric sound. Prime cuts include the doom-laden "Machine Messiah" and the manic ska inflections of "Tempus Fugit." Despite the promise of this new material, the band soon fell apart; Horn went into production, Howe and Downes joined Asia, and Squire and White toyed and then gave up on a pair-up with Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, which was to be titled XYZ (i.e., Ex-Yes and Zeppelin).

I liken Drama to the Yes catalog as I do Heaven and Hell to Black Sabbath's catalog. Though neither were the classic line up, nor the classic sound of the peak years, Drama is my favorite Yes album. No other Yes album rocks as hard as this album. I've not heard my beloved Chris Squire sound more aggressive or passionate anywhere else. This album is made up of essentially 4 monster tracks, 2 on either side, separated by a middle filler song. Though I like Run to the Light and Man in a White Car, the meat is with Into the Lens, Machine Messiah, Tempus Fugit, and Does it Really Happen. Sounds like a band that loved having new blood and another chance to prove that the previous couple of uninspired releases were behind them. I can't recommend this album strongly enough!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  (WEAK) NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album.

(c)           The record is pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          The record is believed to come in its original stock inner sleeve.

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++).

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Visible shelf wear noted on the seams

-         Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         The cover has a few tiny scratch marks on the back side (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a small (quality control?)  stamp on the back panel

-         Cover has one corner slightly dinged (nothing significant)
