Description
Available here is a double record set by XTC - Skylarking. Issued in this form in the UK by Ape House in 2010, it has the catalogue number APELP044D. This version is also the deluxe edition, which features 2x12" heavyweight 180gm vinyl records, housed within an attractive illustrated board book. Produced in limited numbers, copies are now quite scarce and it is one of the most collectible of XTC items.
Record Condition - Mint - Both discs are exceedingly bright and clean and free from any scratches or marks. I’ve listened to both records and can confirm that there is no jumping, sticking or clicking with negligible background crackle or hiss, heard mainly during the intros and outros.
Sleeve Condition - Mint - Original board book and inner sleeves which are pristine. Large pictures of both sides of the disc and sleeve are available on request.
Synopsis - Originally a single album in 1987, this reissue came about following the belated discovery of a major error in the final mix, which affected the sound on all subsequent formats. Remastered from the original tapes, this reissue has been pressed at 45rpm and split across two records for greater sound fidelity. In addition, the release combines the slightly different UK and US versions, so that the tracks Dear God and Mermaid Smiled both appear together.
This deluxe version comes in a stout board book format with copious notes and information spread across 16 pages, by band members Andy Partridge and Colin Moulding. Also featured are original design sketches and photographs, along with specially designed inner record sleeves with printed lyrics.
