Long out of print and nearly impossible to find, this vinyl-only collaboration between Wilco's Nels Cline and bassist Devin Sarno from 1998 is a remarkable document of what makes Cline one of the most unique musical explorers today. Uncompromising, evocative and boundlessly creative, "Rise Pumpkin Rise" creates an improvised sonic world of its own with dense walls of guitar chaos mixed with ambient drones, wild exploration and moments of surprisingly delicate beauty. Dig into it on heavyweight vinyl with thick cardstock sleeve. And what's the story with that cover art? Is it some illicit substance? Something repugnant? A delicious buffalo wing?
