Description

If you've seen "Bathtubs Over Broadway" or read "Everything's Coming Up Profits," you know that private pressing "industrial musical" souvenir albums are some of the rarest and weirdest records in existence. These motivational musicals were only for dealers, salesmen, distributors and other industry insiders at sales meetings and conventions, and the souvenir vinyl records were not available to the public. And many of these shows boasted outstanding music and performances along with the bizarre corporate subject matter.

I'm the collector and historian profiled in the documentary "Bathtubs Over Broadway," and the co-author of "Everything's Coming Up Profits - The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals." I'm thinning out my stash of duplicates, and offering an assortment of records that range from the scarce, to the very rare, to the "you'll probably never encounter this again."

This one is an especially weird one: "We Have The Power," Detroit Diesel Allison's 1976 show, is basically a revival of Detroit Diesel's fantastic "Diesel Dazzle" show of ten years earlier. But without the top-notch cast, orchestra, and arrangements, it's not the same. Kinda a microcosm of how industrial shows, and maybe American industry itself, had slid off the post-war peak of the 60's.
Still, it's a Hank Beebe/Bill Heyer show, so attention must be paid. The old "Diesel Dazzle" songs are fine (and fascinating to compare to the originals if you have a copy of "Diesel Dazzle"). Hank and Bill wrote one new number for this low-budget outing, but Hank (my friend and mentor, and a star of "Bathtubs Over Broadway") recalls this show as a missed opportunity.
However! The cover is definitely a cornucopia of delights, with photos of the show, a truck, an ice sculpture shaped like the company logo, and a Detroit Diesel guy sitting on the edge of a platform near a fake elephant. On the back, more show photos, a display tent, and a clown. Plus a message from General Sales Manager C. B. Clum! We take our pleasures where we can find them.

Details/ Condition:  Record is NM, Cover VG+ or better.

*** Please Note Grading Policy Below***
MINT or M :

Perfect, like it has just left the manufacturer, with NO flaws what so ever. Any defect from the factory pressing are not acceptable. It should look as though it had never been handled. Age has nothing to do with it.

NEAR MINT or NM:

NM means almost mint. Virtually flawless, not perfect. A very minor scuff and very little else, the flaw should be very hard to see. If a scuff covers more than a few tracks yet can be seen, it will not be NM, however it may come very close.

EXCELLENT or EX:

An EX (or VG++) will allow minor scuffs which are visible but only slightly. There may be more than a few, so be careful not call a record that has wear to more than 15% of the surface. The wear should be minimal and of course should play mint! Any scratches that can be felt with your fingernail can NOT be called scuffs. Scuffs lay on top of the grooves. If any break in the grooves are felt, they ARE scratches. And most often, they will be heard when played (soft clicks or even loud pops). Once again, no scratches can make this grade!

VERY GOOD PLUS or VG+:

Will show wear, surface scuffs, and some very light scratches. The flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye. Sometimes under very bright light, you will see many tiny lines across the surface. Because there are more than 15% (yet less than 30%) of wear to the surface, it can make this grade.

Scratches are not acceptable to a serious collector in any way. If you call a record 95% NM but note the record as having 1 track with a bad scratch, many will only consider it as VG (explained next).

VERY GOOD or VG:

The Very Good Grade does not mean Very good at all. At least not in the visual sense. A Very Good (VG) record will appear well played. More and more surface scuffs and scratches.

GOOD or G (including the G+ and VG- grades): Well played, and possibly abused. However should still play. It will have deep scratches. Good means that it will play with some form of decency.

FAIR, & POOR: The easiest way to define this is if does not meet the lowest grade above (GOOD).
