Description
Mod Garage - B side gem
This is an original promotion copy of Ways and Means' 7" Pye single 7N 17217
'Sea of Faces' b/w 'Make The Radio A Little Louder'
Released in January 1967 - only one owner!
Not much is known about Ways and Means who were a Mod Garage band who released this single in January 1967. The A side was apparently co-written by Kim Fowley but even that can't really rescue this ho-hum piece. However - the B side is a proper little gem. 'Make the Radio A Litle Louder' is a brass-laden, reverb-drenched, party pounder. It's been included on compilations like Castle's 2010 'That Driving Beat: Doin' The Mod Vol. 5' so it's eminently collectable.
I've owned this single from new - amazingly - since it was given to me amongst a box of promotion copies of singles in 1967. I was always a bit of a hi-fi nut so I can absolutely vouch for the fact that it's been well looked after and played on reasonable equipment - probably only played half a dozen times. It comes in the original Pye sleeve.
I'm not familiar with the conventions for grading the condition. However as you can see from the pictures the sleeve is clean and in good condition with no writing or pen or pencil marks, and has no significant marks or tears.
The record itself has no visible blemishes at all that I can see. The label is clean and virtually unmarked, once again with no writing, pen or pencil marks. The centre is intact and the spindle hole is perfect. The playing surface has no visible scratches and looks as good as new. The reproduction quality is about as good as it got from a 1967 vinyl single pressing - it's never going to be CD quality, but pretty good nevertheless. There's no audible scratches or crackles other than the usual surface noise that you'd get with any new vinyl record. The lead in and play out grooves are clean and glitch-free.
I believe this is as close as you'll get to a mint condition original copy of this very rare single.
This record was nowhere near a hit so stock copies, and demos especially, will be very hard to find.
